The Heritage Society of Savoy

Fidèle à sa mission, la Société du Patrimoine Savoy hosts, both France and Italy and Switzerland, various events - conferences, exhibitions, conferences - that commemorate great historical events related to cultural, political and social Savoy. It awards, moreover, the Heritage Awards to local communities or who work in this direction in the areas of History, Sacred Art, Art traditional, music, culinary traditions and social and educational works. Through links available on this website, each winner, he resides in Val d'Aosta, Sardinia, Nice, Geneva, in the Ain or Savoy, participates in the cultural rapprochement between the different territories.

As such, the Heritage Society of Savoy aims to be the repository of traditional Savoyard, whatever the country today to whom they belong. It intends its action to recall the great moments in the history of these territories in a context where the approximation between regions (Rhône-Alpes/Piémont, PACA / Liguria, Alsace / Baden Wuerttemberg, North / Wallonia, etc..) Do not limited to economic exchanges. Therefore, beyond these fundamentals, the SPS wants to give a prominent place to European culture, essential to participate in the union of the nations of the Old Continent.

European identity remains to be built.
On his scale, the Heritage Society of Savoy intends to participate fully.

Heritage Awards Special Award

Each year, the Heritage Society of Savoy gives a prize to reward individuals, local authorities and associations working on behalf of the Savoyard heritage. This concerns both current French departments of Savoie and Haute-Savoie, Alpes-Maritimes, former county of Nice, and Ain. But as the Piedmont, Val d'Aosta, Sicily and Sardinia, Italy. Or the canton of Vaud, Geneva and Valais in Switzerland.
The candidates can apply to one of six categories:

-

Admiral Saint-Bon

Special Award Admiral Saint-Bon is a prize awarded to institutions that maintain and preserve the memory of the sacrifice of Savoy and Nice during the wars of Independence of 1848 and 1859 that allowed Italy to build a full-fledged state.

Why refer to Admiral Saint-Bon?

Admiral Saint-Bon is considered in Italy as the founder of the First Marine armored Italian. Chambery, born into a notable family ennobled in the eighteenth century, he made a brilliant career in the Piedmontese and Italian Navy. Belonging to the generation of 1860 who had to choose the option between France and Italy emerging, he preferred to choose loyalty to the Crown of Sardinia and became an inescapable figure in the Italian Navy, by noting the Combat (Lissa in 1866) but also as head of the Naval Academy in Genoa or Minister of the Navy.

Mais Saint-Bon was not alone in this case, many of Savoy and Nice had a similar fate (see
Heyries Hubert, military Savoy between two countries (1848-1871). Approach comparative military history, French army Piedmontese army, Italian Army, Military Studies No. 30, Presses universitaires de Montpellier, 2001, 576 p. ) and not only in military circles.

Therefore, the Heritage Society of Savoy, now intends to emphasize more than ever the course of a generation that remained attached to links Aboriginal and values of openness that exceeded national conflicts.
